I’m in the middle of testing out Gibbon to see if it fits a system that allows easy movement of data between Moodle and a SIS.
I started with the Moodle-Gibbon integration. So far, I’ve users being pulled from Gibbon to Moodle and also Courses being pulled from Gibbon to Moodle. The students coming from Gibbon aren’t being enrolled in the courses from Gibbon, but that’s something I’ll look into at a later date. I’ve manually enrolled some students in courses on Moodle so I can test the grades.
One of the main features I want is the ability to Grade users in Moodle, and be able to send/sync that grade with the same user in Gibbon.
After that, I want Gibbon to export the user with his/her grades as a .csv or .pdf. Again, something for me to look into later.
So my main query is, assuming the users and courses were initially setup on Gibbon and pulled into moodle via the Moodle module, is it possible to send user grades from Moodle back to the same user in Gibbon?
Thanks for giving Gibbon a go, and welcome to the community. I believe what you are doing should be possible, and I think I would attempt it in two phases.
- Use @skuipers Data Admin module, which is available on our Extend page, to try a manual important from Moodle to Gibbon's Markbook.
- If this is successful, see if you can then automate this in some way (perhaps with a cron script).
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks for taking the time to get back to me. I’ve looked at the module previously and had it installed to allow for exporting of different data which might be needed. Unfortunately for me, my experience with SQL is very little, so there’s a steep learning curve for me. I’ve contacted @skuipers to see if they might be able to give me some help in where I should start and possibly what I might have to learn before I can try to customize this for myself.
Being a Junior Developer, I’ve manly being working on Wordpress and Magento front end jobs but due to our Senior Developer, who had previously been trying to do something similar with Moodle and another SIS, leaving and not sharing any of his findings before he left, I’ve been left way over my head.
Joys of working for a small team!
Sounds like a tough spot! I know the feeling of being in a small team, which is both a blessing and a burden.
Let me know how you get on, and hopefully Sandra (aka skuipers) will be able to give you some direction. I believe she has recently added some Markbook import templates, so that might help you.
Good luck, and let us know if you have any specific questions we can help with going forward.
