Student-Centric Grade Entry View in Markbook

@Ali @sandra

Summary:
Currently, in the Markbook, grade entry is organized by column (assessment), allowing teachers to enter grades for all students in a class for a single column at a time.

I would like to request an additional student-centric grade entry view.

Description:
Introduce a single screen or option that allows teachers to:

  • Select a specific student

  • View all Markbook columns (assessments) for that student

  • Enter or edit grades across multiple columns from one interface

This would function similarly to how the Reports module allows entering multiple criteria for a single student in one place.

Home > Reports > My Reporting > Write Reports > By Student

Use Case:
This feature would be especially useful when:

  • Reviewing or updating grades during student conferences

  • Entering late or make-up work for a specific student

  • Performing final grade checks or adjustments

  • Supporting individualized grading workflows

Benefits:

  • Improves efficiency when working student-by-student

  • Reduces navigation between multiple columns

  • Provides a more intuitive workflow for certain grading scenarios

  • Aligns with existing patterns in the Reports module

Suggested Implementation (Optional):

  • Add a “Student View” toggle/button in the Markbook

  • Display a table with:

    • Columns = Markbook columns (assessments)

    • Rows = Selected student (or expandable for quick switching)

  • Allow inline editing similar to the current Markbook interface

Additional context:
This would be particularly helpful for teachers who work student-by-student rather than assessment-by-assessment, especially during interventions or grade reviews.

Closing:
This enhancement would complement the existing column-based workflow by adding a flexible, student-focused alternative for grade entry.

Thanks
