How to Host Gibbon School Management System on Hostinger?

Hi everyone,

I’m planning to host the Gibbon School Management System on Hostinger and wanted to gather advice or share steps for doing so efficiently. Hostinger offers affordable shared and cloud hosting options, but I’m not sure which plan suits Gibbon best or what configurations are needed for smooth performance.

Specifically, I’m interested in:

  • Recommended Hostinger hosting plan for Gibbon (shared, cloud, VPS?)
  • Server requirements and PHP versions supported by Gibbon
  • Database setup (MySQL/MariaDB) on Hostinger
  • Any known challenges or tips for installing Gibbon on Hostinger’s environment
  • SSL and security best practices
  • Backup strategies on Hostinger
  • Performance optimization suggestions

Has anyone here hosted Gibbon on Hostinger before? Any pointers or resources would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Great Choice! I am currently hosting on Hostinger, and so far, it has been easy to use. When you sign u for Hostinger, you are creating a website, and they will give you the option to choose your domain name, but you are not using WordPress, you are uploading your PHP site.

Currently, I use the Premium Web hosting Site (and that’s enough for a small to medium-sized school), but you can go up if you need more space.

Server: PHP 7.4+ (Gibbon supports up to PHP 8.3) and MySQL 5.7+ / MariaDB (MySQL 8.0 recommended)

  • Pick a PHP version & enable extensions

  • hPanel → your Website → Dashboard → PHP Configuration

  • Create the database & user

  • hPanel → Databases → MySQL Databases → Create.

Then upload the Gibbon Files and run the web installer.

Hostinger offers Dark web monitoring to keep your site off of unwanted sites.

Tips:

  • Make sure your database name has Gibbon in the name to make it easier to connect

  • If the Installer won’t load / white screen, try using the files straight from Gibbon instead of Github

  • Hostinger has SSH access if you use a terminal, but you’ll have to enable it first to use it.(I made that mistake)

I think that’s all I have for now, but if you have any questions, I will be happy to help.
