Is is possible to change currency? Our bills are usually sent in VND (with a USD amount for reference…but this changes according to the exchange rate)
Sue,
We generally added currencies when requested (should really do them all in one go, but have not found the time). So, I have now added VND to the v11 dev branch, but the changes are backwards compatible to v10, so you can replace the files change in the commit below, and you should be ready to select VND in Admin > System Admin.

BTW, our teacher documentation is finally getting some love, and there are some pages that might really help your staff: https://gibbonedu.org/support/teachers/
Thanks,
Ross
Thanks Ross. This update was installed, but there is still a problem…when entering dong I tried 600000 which should then display as 600,000 but instead it shows up as 600000.00
Sue, I am sure we can fix this. Please can you let me know on what pages you are seeing this? Annotated screenshots might be a nice way to show where the issues are occuring. These could be send to support@gibbonedu.org. Ross
Emailed.
Sue, sorry for the delay in replying. Busy times at school! For the case you have reported by email (activities costs) I have added the 1000s seperator. However, for the 2 decimal places this would be a much bigger fix, and so there is not much I can do right now. We might have to address this in a future version. To get the 1000s fix, get the files affected in this v11 dev branch commit:
https://github.com/GibbonEdu/core/commit/e3f9812ed2e3878ccf69862afe3dcbc7b62eefdf
They should be backwards compatible with v10, if I am not mistaken.
Hope this helps.
Ross
PS, let us know if you find any other money values lacking the 1000s separate. With the value of the Dong I can see how this helps read money values correctly.
Hi Ross, the comma is now in the correct place, but it has reverted to $ not vnd for the symbol
Ross
D’Oh…all good…had changed to Aus dollars…must be picking upon the fact that the majority of our teachers are Aussie!
Hi Ross,
Sue,
Most likely not your fault at all. From memory I added VND into v11 for you, and then helped to get it running in v10. I have just tested v11, and it saves to VND OK, so must be something in your version.
Can you please send me the following to files by email to support@gibbonedu.org:
/modules/System Admin/systemSettings.php
/modules/System Admin/systemSettings_process.php
I will take a look at the code, and see what is going on.
Thanks,
Ross
Hi Ross,
Sue,
Thanks for those files. Having had a look, they seem fine, and using them in my v11 development system does not recreate your issue. So, no clues there. What I really need to know is the result of the following test:
- Set currency to VND, and press Submit.
- Don’t change anything else, just press Submit again.
- Does VND stick, or does it revert to AUD?
If you can let me know the result of this, then I can suggest further tests that should help us narrow down the possibilities.
Thanks,
Ross
Hi Ross,
Sue, I guess that might be it. Do you want to see what happens when you upgrade to v11 (which is only a month away), and post here if it does not fix the issue. If you sign up for our newsletter (http://gibbonedu.org/support/), you will get a notification when v11 is launched.
Interestingly, when I go to overdue invoices, the amounts are showing up in dong!
Actually now that I’ve had an explore, it seems to be in dong, everywhere, except on the invoices when emailed! and system setting is still showing AUD
Interesting! And strange! We have had no reports of this issue in v11 dev, and it is in use in a number of schools. Are you OK to wait for v11 to come out?
Sure
