Behavior and student file

How can i allow the student to see their behavior record if the box is greyed out under permissions? Also i am unsure how to print their student record for filing?

Hi @Alyssha Currently in v27.0.01 and before, there is no way for a student to view there own behaviour records, as these were deemed to be private details. However, in v28 releasing Nov 20, 2024, there will be a new permission (off by default) that can enable students to see certain details of their behaviour records.

Hi Sandra,

I’ve been exploring v28.0.1, but I wasn’t able to find the specific permission settings for allowing students to view their behaviour records.

I’m really focused on improving communication between parents and the school, and I’d love to show parents more about their children’s recent behaviour at school. However, I’ve noticed that the internal messaging system isn’t very convenient, and parents are often reluctant to use it. Is there a better way to share this information with them?

Thanks Sandra :hugs:

I couldn’t find any similar settings.

Hi @AndroidOL

In order to grant students the permission to view their own behaviour records, login from an admin account and go to User Admin → Manage Permissions → Search for Module Behaviour ->Check the box for allowing students (Std) to view their behaviour records. Hopefully it should allow students to view their behaviour records from the behaviour module.

To allow parents view their children’s behaviour, check the box for View Behaviour Records_myChildren under Prt (Parents) to allow them access to view the behaviour records of their children. Hopefully this is helpful.

Hi @Ali,

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. I fully understand the functionality you’ve described. However, I was hoping that parents could view more detailed content of the behaviour records, rather than just the preset categories and basic descriptions of severity. Ideally, I would like to be able to track these behaviours just like teachers do.

For positive feedback, parents might want to know which specific actions took place and when, so they can encourage their child effectively. On the other hand, for negative feedback, parents would likely appreciate more detailed information to discuss with the teacher, such as when and where the incident occurred. This would help them communicate better with their child. Additionally, for minor issues, like a student not finishing work due to sickness (e.g., diarrhea the previous day), it would be helpful for parents to have enough details to provide direct feedback to the teacher.

I hope this clarifies my request and thank you again for your help!

Hi @AndroidOL

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback regarding the behaviour records in the Gibbon system. The design of the Gibbon system prioritizes student privacy, which is why specific details about a child’s behaviour are only accessible to teachers. This approach helps ensure confidentiality, especially since behaviours can sometimes involve interactions with other students. The main goal of the behaviour module is to allow teachers to document incidents and follow up appropriately, ensuring that they can manage and support each child’s development effectively. That said, one of the great advantages of being an open-source platform is the ability to customise and enhance the system. If you have some coding capacity, you can develop additional features that meet your needs. We also encourage you to share any new features with us; if they prove beneficial for other schools, we can consider merging them into the broader system. Thank you for your input.

Dear @Ali,

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback regarding the behavior records in the Gibbon system. I understand the importance of student privacy and the need for confidentiality, especially when behaviors involve interactions with other students. I appreciate the system’s design that allows teachers to document incidents and follow up appropriately to support each child’s development effectively.

Regarding the internal messaging feature, I am currently working on developing a messaging system suitable for Gibbon. However, as I have not studied PHP before, I am finding it somewhat challenging. To overcome this, I am studying the code of other modules to gain a better understanding.

I am committed to completing this plugin development and will continue to learn and adapt as I progress. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Hi @AndroidOL
Thank you for your effort in developing a messaging feature for Gibbon! It’s great to see you taking the initiative to learn PHP by studying existing modules. Your dedication to contributing to an open-source platform like Gibbon is truly appreciated. The new feature will definitely benefit the Gibbon community. Keep up the good work, and I am looking forward to that PR.
