Year Groups

About Year Groups, what about if we have years 7A, 7B, 8A, 8B and so on?, can I modify the ones already existing, or, do I have to delete them and create new year groups?

Adolfo,

You can delete the year groups, no problem, and add your own. However, 7A and 7B sounds like two form/roll groups in a single year group. Are the kids in 7A and 7B the same age? So, we have year groups Y7, Y8, Y9, etc…and then we divide students into groups for pastoral care and attendance taking as 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 in Y7 and 8.1, 8.2, 8.3 in Y8, etc.

Based on your answer I can see that our “cultures” in educational institutions are very different.
Kids in year 7A and 7B are the same age, kids in year 8A and 8B are the same age also, and so on. They are divide by using a letter, 7A, 7B for year 7 …, 8A, 8B, 8C for year 8, and so on (not 7.1, 7.2, 8.1, 8.2). Main reason is space in a room and number of students, also in this way we can assign teachers for different groups, all of this when we talk about “lessons”.
Because I´m new in this school I have to ask about forms and pastoral care, attendance, so…to be continued!!!..
Finally, to set year groups (Year 7, Year 8…) is under Home > School Admin > Manage Year Group,
but where do I specify 7A, 7B, 8A, 8B…?, by the way, letters have nothing to do with forms and rolls, just sections to be separated in different rooms.

I don’t think our cultures are as different as you might think…just different terminology perhaps. 7A, 7B, etc would be set up under Admin > School Admin and then Manage Form Groups (UK English) or Manage Roll Groups (US English). At our primary school we use v12’s new String Replacement feature (under System Admin) to call these things Classes.
