i just wanted to know what strategy we should adopt to update our OS, Ubuntu in our case. i am scared just incase it will break our system. same goes for the database, PHP, and webserver?
and is it a concern or i am just panicking?

Hi @alkindy It’s quite fair to be concerned. Be sure to back up your system. A complete backup, such as a VM snapshot, is ideal because it preserves all your settings and files. At the very least back up your database and files, peferrably to a separate server than the one you are updating. Then, it should be fairly safe to update.
With linux being the bedrock of the internet, its quite stable, and you’ll find lots of tutorials online with instructions for your specific version. If you search “upgrading Ubuntu from X to X”, there’s likely a step by step tutorial.
A common issue that can happen when updating is your SSL certificate needing reset. Making an extra backup of the files in etc/apache2 can help.
Hope this helps! It’s generally quite smooth, and you can even turn on unassisted updates to get all the minor version updates automatically, then you only have to do the major updates by hand.
