Hi all,
I am trying to send emails through messenger but they are not coming through! Same with the behavioural emails! (For every negative record, it alerts the Head.) Any help? No emails have come through.

Hi Tom,
There are two ways to proceed here: one is to set up local email sending on your server, using a sendmail package, such as postfix. The other is to go to Admin > System Admin > Third Party Settings and enable SMTP for sending via an external server. We use the second approach, as authenticating on such a server reduces the chances of messages being marked as spam.
Cheers,
Ross
Does this work with gmail?
Yes, you can use a Gmail account to authenticate against Google’s SMTP servers and send that way. Ross.
I tried send an email through messenger but that doesn’t work. Reset password and notifications do. Is there a way to edit the email template?
Hi rprice, were you trying to send via SMTP, or not? If not, you’ll need an email service running on your server. Check out this post for more information:

Thanks,
Ross
Hi Ross,
I used the gmail SMTP settings, which work because i get notifications and password resets
Hi rprice1978.
Are you using Gibbon v20? We did add background email sending to messenger in the most recent version, if this was not working for your setup that might explain why some emails work but not messenger ones. In System Admin there is a setting to turn background sending off. You could try this, then see if your messages are sending.
Thanks!
Hi Sandra,
Thanks for the response. Please see attached error after turning background off.
Hmm, that doesn’t necessarily look like an error, it appears to be a log of the message being sent successfully. Where did this message log output?
When I hit submit it displays in the browser
Hi This is more for @admin . I think it would be a good thing to advise people on install if they can insert dkim/spif records into their domain settings just incase they are using a thirdparty server to host their install.
This helps reduce spam flags.
Hi Alex,
This sounds interesting, and thanks for sharing this. Are these DNS records, or something different? Can you offer any input on how you set them up, examples of what they contain, etc? Would be very useful : )
Thanks,
Ross
Hi Ross,
Sorry for the delay, work is crazy.
setting up dkim/spif is easy but depends on the host that is managing DNS. We use https://www.dmarcanalyzer.com/ for all our clients as defualt.
Here is great article on it as well
https://blog.mailtrap.io/create-dkim-tutorial/
on how to manually create one.

Hi Alex,
No apology needed, we know the feeling! Thanks for sharing these useful links. I’m going to have a browse now, and then @ross is going to follow up for our own school in terms of implementation. We’ll let you know if we need any help!
Cheers,
Ross
Hi Alex,
On further reading, as we use GSuite, and root Gibbon email through it, it looks like we might only have to configure it. We are going to enable it, and then do some testing next week:

Hi Alex,
Right, turns out it is not just a simple switch through, but the procedure is not too hard, and well documented here:
