How do i get users passwords

So I imported users through the data admin module without setting a default password. I’m made to believe that a password will be generated for the users by the system, How do I output them into a csv?

Hello, when you import, the password should appear on screen. You can’t export them, but you can copy and paste them from there. If you want to reset them to some known values, you can use the SQL shown in the link below:

Let us know if you’d like any further help.

Thanks for this. Although when I did the import (using data admin module) the passwords never appeared on my screen an isn’t there another way to get them without doing a reset?

Hi fosippo. I’ll check into this, the Data Admin should also output the generated passwords similar to the built-in import, but I haven’t looked at this part of the code for a while so I’ll test it out.

Hi fosippo,

I’ve fixed this issue and added an output of user passwords on the final import step for Data Admin. This fix is currently only compatible with v16, but luckily the wait wont be long, as v16 releases on June 20th. Interestingly, I found a TODO note in the comments of the importer script with a :(` and note to fix this

I suspect you’ve already come up with another solution since then (the simplest is for users to use Forgot Password and set their own), however should you want to re-generate them the User Passwords import can be used with the [ Generate ] option to create new passwords for each imported user.

Thanks again for finding this issue!

How do I apply this fix?
I want to import the “Full User Data” now, however it has Passwords as a compulsory field. I don’t want to give out new passwords to everyone again. :s

I"m using v19.0.0

OK, I read this post 7-8 times and finally understood

It doesn’t help me at all. I want to skip changing password. What are all the drop down menus? And why are some fields mandatory :frowning:

No problem, check out my reply here: https://ask.gibbonedu.org/discussion/comment/6596#Comment_6596
