editing the php.ini file

I’m struggling to edit the php.ini file, to allow me to make changes to permissions

In the .htaccess file i have removed everything and written:

php_value max_input_vars 5000

However, this does not make any difference and the error message on the manage permissions page is still there. 

My webhost is 000webhost, if anyone is familiar with it.

What you are doing is using htaccess, rather than changing php.ini. It is possible your host may let you change the setting in one, both or none of these ways, depending on their server config. Best bet is to contact the host direct.

thanks, ive decided to change hosts, and will be using a paid host now anyway.
